Joy~Nostalg University Opens Its Doors: The First Training That Set the Standard for Growth
The first batch of Joy~Nostalg University participants, drawn from units across the Joy~Nostalg Group, gather at the close of the two-day communications workshop on November 14, 2025. Under the JN icon and within the spaces their organization built, they began something that will carry forward: a culture of learning, growth, and excellence.

On November 13 and 14, 2025, the Joy~Nostalg Organization Development Unit marked a milestone for the entire Group. For the first time, Joy~Nostalg University formally opened with its first official training session: a two-day communications workshop that brought together employees from different units across the organization to learn, connect, and grow together.

It was not simply a skills training. It was a statement about the kind of organization Joy~Nostalg is committed to becoming.

Why This Training Matters

Why This Training Matters
Group Executive Officer Mr. Jacinto C. Ng, Jr. addresses the first Joy~Nostalg University training batch, with the workshop's communication framework visible on the screen behind him: Fire, Joy, and Empathy as the foundations of meaningful connection. A leader who does not just speak about growth but shows up for it

Joy~Nostalg University is the Group's formal platform for employee learning and development. Its purpose is rooted in the same values that guide everything Joy~Nostalg does: the belief that growth is not optional, that excellence requires continuous formation, and that the best organizations invest in their people with the same intentionality they bring to their products and communities.

The inaugural training focused on professional communications, one of the most foundational and most impactful skills in any organization. It covered written and verbal communication, empathetic listening, and the discipline of expressing ideas with clarity, conciseness, and consideration for others.

Group Executive Officer Mr. Jacinto C. Ng, Jr. shared the heart behind the initiative:

"We are not meant to be stagnant. And I'm almost sure neither do you want to be stagnant. You want to be able to grow. Everybody wants to grow. We are actually meant to grow. And so this is the reason why we have this training and development program. To make sure that growth is done properly. That you are guided properly. That we are learning the right things, the more important things."

He added a vision that extended beyond the individual:

"It is important, it is imperative that we become a better company. Because the world needs the Philippines. And the Philippines need more of us. To influence them positively with the knowledge, the competence, the skills that you have gained."

What Employees Learned

What Employees Learned

The two-day workshop was led by Ms. Sarah Rebecca G. Gonzaga, Chief Learning Officer of the Joy~Nostalg Organization Development Unit, whose approach to training drew consistent praise from participants across the organization.

The training introduced employees to a set of principles designed to strengthen how they communicate in their daily work.

The three core principles of effective communication were a central takeaway: being Complete, Concise, and Considerate in every message, whether written or spoken. Participants learned that great communication is not just about what is said, but how it is delivered and how it lands with the person receiving it.

The workshop also taught a three-step framework for empathetic response: first, acknowledge the emotion of the person you are speaking with; second, connect with the issue they are raising; and third, offer a clear response or action. For employees who regularly work with clients, contractors, homeowners, and colleagues across units, this framework gave language and structure to conversations that matter.

Tone, timing, and the parallel between verbal and written communication were also explored in depth. Participants were reminded that tone is contagious: a calm, clear, and respectful voice in a conversation tends to draw the same in return.

Voices from the Training

Voices from the Training
Employees from across the Joy~Nostalg Group engage in the communications workshop during the first Joy~Nostalg University training session. Notebooks open, pens moving, attention forward. This is what a culture of learning looks like in practice.

Employees across units shared what the experience meant for them and how they planned to bring it back to their work.

A participant from the Engineering Management Group reflected on the empathetic response framework:

"My greatest takeaway is the three empathetic responses: acknowledge the emotion of the person you are talking to, connect with the issue they are raising, and give a response or action. I can use this in our reconciliations with contractors, where disagreements often arise. The goal is always to find where we can settle and agree, based on plans and the given."

A teammate added a note on tone:

"If you are a good listener, you can also be a good speaker. Consider the tone of your speech, because your conversation partner can adopt it too. If you are tense, they may become tense as well. Stay calm, be clear, keep it simple and sincere."

A participant also connected the training directly to her work with buyers and homeowners:

"We always talk to clients about their homes and accounts. Everything I learned here applies: how to be empathetic, how to respond well. I can share it with my team and hopefully everyone can apply it."

Another participant offered a concise summary of the training's value:

"Communication helps us share our ideas clearly with our coworkers. Through this training, I learned to be precise, to be respectful, and to make sure what I say is both complete and considerate."

A First Step in a Longer Journey

Joy~Nostalg University's first training session was a beginning, not a conclusion. The Organization Development Unit has laid the foundation for a sustained program of learning and development that will continue to grow alongside the organization.

For every employee who participated, the two days were an investment. An investment in clearer conversations. Stronger teams. Better service to the homeowners, partners, and communities Joy~Nostalg exists to serve.

As Mr. Ng put it simply: "Each skill, each subject. It's just like going to school. When you graduate, you are a much better person."

At Joy~Nostalg, the learning has begun.
